Warm Up

As students work through this unit it is intended that the following warm up and stretch will be learnt as a routine. In the initial lessons students will be taught the warm up in counts of 8, following the 'teacher' for the remaining counts. Students will progressively learn the 'routines' while they improve their physical skills such as core, muscular strength, transference of weight, isolation, posture and balance. Students are advised to control movements to ensure safe dance practice.

Correct form is shown to students and a stationary practice is performed before locomotion is added. Students complete each skill across the diagonal of the floor space twice, ensuring constant awareness of other dancers. An additional technical skill will be learnt from the specific dance genre each week. Refer to overview.
